new Sony card offer

Another offer for $100 bonus for opening a Sony Visa card (offered through Chase). I've done two of these Sony deals in the past and received the $100 credit 5 days after the first statement, but now it looks like it's 8-12 weeks after the first purchase. You can either use the credit on your card, or call and request a check for the credit balance.

enjoy!

When I see these $100 gift card offers associated with credit cards, I am always tempted to take advantage of them - sign up, get the gift card, and cancel the card. I don't, though, for fear that doing this repeatedly will negatively affect my credit score. Even though I pay my credit card balance on time, I heard that each time a credit report is run on you, it lessens your score. Is my fear unfounded? Please comment on whether signing up and then cancelling credit cards can have a negative effect on your credit score.

P.S. Love the blog!

Thanks, Leah!

Too many credit checks can have a negative impact on your credit score, but only temporarily. If you are looking at buying a house in the next year, or you have average or poor credit, these offers aren't for you. If you have good or great credit and can afford to lose a few points for a couple months, then you might consider taking advantage of a few offers.
