gastrointestinally generous?

I think I'm making words up now, but I have a serious question. How many chances do you give a restaurant to abuse you, your pocket book, your dinner guests, and/or your stomach before you write them off for good?

I was having this discussion with a friend the other day, and we both agreed that we usually give a restaurant three strikes before we stop going there. It occurred to me that I don't think a restaurant has ever redeemed itself after the first strike, so why do I keep giving these kitchens of bad food, bad service, or otherwise unpleasant dining experiences the chance to abuse me again?

I always feel like a fool when I go to a restaurant a second or third time, hopeful that they will surprise me with a miraculous turnaround, only to have the same bad experience as before. Sometimes this is even after I hear great things about the restaurant from friends or colleagues, or I read a positive review. I also feel bad not giving the proprietors of these small establishments a second chance. I'm sure it is difficult to find that balance of fresh ingredients, good help, and a nice atmosphere, and I want to make sure I don't write them off because of one bad night.

I've decided my dining dollars are too precious to squander, and I think I'm going to go down to a onetwo-strike rule.

I give them two chances with at least 1 month between them. Longer if it's a newly opened restaurant.

Unless it is your favorite place, why give more than one chance? You are the customer, you don't owe it to them to be "fair."

If I don't like a place it usually is because of the food not the service; I'm pretty indifferent, just serve me my food and make it good!

I've only stopped going to one restaurant and that was because of the person who works there. It had opened and was in front of the Fry's that I usually go into to buy a burrito or corn dog before going to school or after classes. Anyways figured new restaurant wonder what they serve; their name was AppleFarm located on Grant and 1st in tucson az :)

Went inside and this lady who was sitting down reading a newspaper asked me what I wanted. I said, "what kind of food do you serve?"

Her famous reply, first she eyeballed me up and down and then told me (I'm hispanic btw) "we don't serve Mexican food" in the most annoying voice possible.

I pretty much left after calling her a few choice words. Mentioned it to my co-workers, my friends and my acquaintances; pretty much from then on I made it my job to tell people about the piss poor manners of that restaurant. She could have offered me a menu or pointed me to the menu board; never got to it she asked me what I wanted pretty much 3 feet from the entrance.

Sorry for the diatribe; still pissed to this day.

I frequently stop going to restaurants because of poor service. I don't expect a lot, but I would like a glass of water (filled occasionally) and warm food...that's really all I ask for. However, I frequently do not receive these two things. I have recently had the problem of the waitor dropping the wrong food on our table. The waitor then leaves quickly, so we have to flag him back down. Then, he picks up the items and delivers them to the right table. EW!

Twice. I'll always assume that bad food/service on the first time is accountable to just having an off-night. If the food/service is bad a second time, that place will never see me again.

We have a 10 month old, and we miss going out to dinner at all. We still go out, but it's a challenge. Enjoy your eating out at places that appreciate your business...while you still can ;-)
