Net worth and debt reduction update - July

Well, the July numbers are in... it wasn't a very good month for the bottom line. The stock market stumble hit us fairly hard, although I don't mind too much. Since we are strictly in the "buying" stage of life, the lower the better.

The good news is that we somehow, despite some pretty high spending (new truck tires, LOTS of baby stuff), managed to make progress on the debt reduction front. We are $1300 closer to our goal of $0.

July June Difference
Retirement 154,644 156,973 (2,328)
Real Estate Equity 79,117 78,378 739
Stocks 4,882 4,992 (110)
Cash vs. Credit Card Debt (31,574) (32,885) 1,311
TOTAL 207,070 207,458 -388

How does one know what to buy for a baby?

I can't tell if your question is serious or not? It all depends on what type of parent you want to be and the decisions you make on how you will raise your child. Some people buy new clothes and toys. Some people buy used. Some people co-sleep, others have cribs, some do both. Some moms breastfeed, so they need a pump, others feed formula. Some parents cloth diaper so they have to decide what type of diapers they want to use, others stock up on disposables.

Car seats, swings, playpads, play pens, mattress protectors, sheets... there's tons of stuff that many people find themselves buying when they are expecting a baby.

We were hit hard in the 401k this month too. I keep reminding myself that at 33, it's not such a bad thing. At least we'll be buying low for a while!
